Current Position and Title:
Benedicta joined the staff of the University of Buea, Cameroon, in 2001. She is currently Senior Lecturer and Researcher: Zoology Program, (Hydrobiology and Fisheries unit), Department of Life Sciences, University of Buea, Cameroon .

Education and Past Positions:
M.Sc., 1992, Zoology (specialization in Hydrobiology and Fisheries), University of Ibadan, Nigeria
Ph.D., 2000, Hydrobiology and Fisheries, University of Ibadan, Nigeria

1997-1999: Research Associate in an internationally supported project involving five African countries on ‘Water Pollution Control and Biodiversity Conservation in the Gulf of Guinea Large Marine Ecosystem '.

2002 to date: Consultant & Research Team member (Aquaculture), WorldFish (Formerly ICLARM- The World Fish Center), Cameroon  

2003 to date: Consultant (Fisheries and Aquaculture), Pan-African Institute for Development- West Africa (PAID-WA), Cameroon .  

Professional Interests:
Aquatic Biology, Fisheries, Aquaculture, Aquatic pollution and toxicology.

Benedicta's current interests focus on the effects of heavy metals and toxins, especially those associated with harmful algal blooms (HABs), on marine and coastal resources. These interests include mitigation and restoration of polluted areas through biotechnological and other techniques. She also works on African freshwater fish aquaculture.

Most Satisfying Achievements/Awards to Date:
Benedicta says that her most satisfying achievement was completing excellent M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees, while also giving birth to three of her four children during those years.

1994-1999: First assessment of heavy metal bioaccumulation in sediments, benthic macroinvertebrates and fish from a system of lakes in Southwestern Nigeria .

1997-1999: Involved in first systematic long-term National Plankton Survey of the Cameroon coastline sponsored by UNIDO.

Awards:
1994-1999: Visiting Research Fellowship, International Institute of Tropical Agriculture Ibadan , Nigeria.
2002-2003: Grant from WorldFish for Aquaculture of potential ornamental fish from Cameroon .
2005: Scholarship from Royal Museum of Central Africa Tervuren, Belgium /FishBase for a study on FishBase and Fish Taxonomy.

Family and Personal Interests/Activities:
Benedicta is happily married to a most devoted husband and has four priceless sons. Her interests include traveling, writing and Christian religious activities.
