Current Position and Title:
Ph.D. student in the Aquatic Biotechnology Project, Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Havana, Cuba
Education and Past Positions:
Ph.D. (In progress): Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, University of Havana, Cuba.
Supervisor: Dr. Mario Pablo Estrada
B.Sc. 1999: Degree in Biochemistry, University of Havana, Cuba.
Professional Interests:
The investigation that comprizes part of Jannel's doctoral research, and the work that she is performing in her project, examine the molecules involved in the control of growth in aquatic organisms, the relation of hormones that regulate this process to immunity in fish and the structure-function relationships of these proteins. Her work is directly connected to aquatic biotechnology and involves several molecular biology techniques.
Most Satisfying Achievements/Awards:
Jannel has been recognized twice for her research achievements by the Cuban Academy of Science (http://www.academiaciencias.cu/English/indexen.asp) .
2006: for her contributions to work on a novel mechanism of RNA interference (RNAi) to demonstrate gene functions in aquatic organisms.
2007: for her contributions to work on neuropeptides that stimulate the growth and the innate immune system of fish.
Family and Personal Interests/Activities:
Jannel very much enjoys the sea and nature. She likes to travel and is satisfied to pass her free time with her family and friends.
