Current Position and Title:
In 1988, Leonardo joined the “Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada”, at Ensenada Baja California, México, (CICESE),where he is “ Investigador Titular “C” and Professor at the CICESE Marine Biotechnology Postgraduate Program.

Licenciatura: 1968-1973. Oceanología. Facultad de Ciencias Marinas, Universidad Autónoma de Baja California.
Especialidad: 1973-1974. D.E.A. Biological Oceanography. Station Marine D'Endoume. Marseille France.
Doctorat d'Etat: 1974-1979. Marine Bacteriology. Université d'Aix en Proveçe. Marseille, France.
Researcher: 1979-1987 : Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
1987 to date: Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada

Professional Interests:
Leonardo has focused his research on the bacterial genera Vibrio, and is now concerned with the ecology, monitoring and toxicity of those organisms in the marine environment, humans and aquaculture nursery farms.

Most Satisfying Achievements/Awards:
Chief Scientist of the Oceanographic Program PROGMEX for the Study of the Impact of Oil Production upon the Southern Gulf of Mexico Marine Environment.

Initiation and Development of the Marine Biotechnology Department at CICESE.

Awards:
Investigador Nacional since 1990.

Family and Personal Interests/Activities:
Cultivation of useful vegetables herbs and fruits. Small-scale production of wine and beer. Leonardo is fluent in English, French and Spanish.
