Current Position and Title:
Dr. Quilliam joined the NRC in 1987 and is now a Principal Research Officer and Program Leader for the Toxins and Certified Reference Materials Program, Institute for Marine Biosciences, National Research Council Canada, Halifax , Nova Scotia , Canada . Dr. Quilliam also has Adjunct Professorships in Dalhousie University 's Food Science and Pharmacy Departments.

Professional Interests:
Detection and identification of toxins associated with seafood poisoning incidents; development and validation of assay and chemical analysis methods for toxin and drug residues in seafood and plankton; production of certified reference materials for marine toxins; liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS).
Most Satisfying Achievements/Awards to Date:
Identification of domoic acid as the causative agent in the 1987 and 1991 Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning incidents, identification of several new marine toxins, the production and certification of a unique suite of shellfish toxin certified reference materials that are distributed worldwide.
