Current Position and Title:
Monty has recently retired. However, he continues as Chair of the Advisory Committee of the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre, Treasurer for PAMBA, founding member of the Advisory Board to the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, UBC (formerly Agricultural Sciences), and is a board member of Discovery Parks Inc.

Monty is the founder and former President of Syndel Laboratories Ltd. 1977

Professional Interests:
Monty spent over 40 years in the chemical and related industries; early in his career as a polymer chemist with CIL and the Reid Paper Group; and in the past 29 years as founder and CEO of Syndel Laboratories Ltd., at first manufacturing fine chemicals for the detection of beta radiation used in nuclear medicine, followed by reproductive peptides, anesthetics, tranquilizers and live transport products for cold blooded animals used in aquatic animal culture. He has been active in Asia and the Pacific Rim since 1979, and has created solid commercial relationships in the form of distributorships and joint ventures in India , Malaysia , Taiwan , Indonesia , and Chile .
Monty is an active member in Canada 's biotechnology community. Past commitments include:
- founding Director and first Chair of the British Columbia Biotechnology Alliance 1990
- Chair of the Board of the Canadian Institute of Biotechnology 1991-2000
- Chair of the Advisory Board, NRC Institute for Marine Biosciences (Halifax , NS , Canada ) 1993-96
- founding Director of the Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation ( St. John's , NL, Canada ) 1989-94
Monty has also been a Council member and Chair of the Science Council of British Columbia (1995-2003) and a board member of Veterinary Infectious Disease Organization (VIDO).
Most Satisfying Achievements/Awards:
Founding and managing his successful company group, Syndel Laboratories Ltd., Syndel International Inc. and Syndel Asia Sdn. Bhd.
Being part of a dynamic industry, always changing, always challenging, and meeting the changes and challenges head-on.
His volunteer work was recognized by the BC Biotechnology Alliance with an award for Community Involvement and Enhancement.

Family and Personal Interests/Activities:
Monty is now enjoying more time with his wife, three children and six grandchildren.
He MAY have more time for golf, fishing and pleasure travel.
