Current Position and Title:
Dr. Douglas joined the NRC in 1986 and is now a Senior Research Officer and Group Leader for the Cell and Molecular Biology group, Institute for Marine Biosciences, National Research Council Canada, Halifax , Nova Scotia , Canada . Dr. Douglas also has Adjunct Professorships in Dalhousie University 's Microbiology & Immunology and Biology Departments.

Professional Interests:
Genomics of marine organisms, antimicrobial peptides and innate immunity of teleosts.
Most Satisfying Achievements/Awards to Date:
Complete sequence of the nucleomorph genome of a marine cryptomonad alga, the fourth eukaryotic genome to be sequenced worldwide. Identification of families of antimicrobial peptides from fish, and application through biotechnology, to disease treatment. Design and use of a custom Atlantic salmon cDNA microarray for study of host-pathogen interactions in salmonids.

Outstanding Achievement Award, Institute for Marine Biosciences, 2000
NRC Business Case Challenge 2nd prize, 2003
Family and Personal Interests/Activities: Raising teenagers! Hobbies include squash, tennis, cross-country skiing, reading and gardening.
