Current Position and Title:
Since 2000, Tania has been a member of the Aquaculture group of the Center for Marine Research, University of Havana, Cuba. She carries out investigations on the immune system of crustaceans, and is a member of the research and teaching staff of the University of Havana.  Presently she is a doctoral student in the “Latin American Doctorate in Sciences Program”, that is carried out between the University of Havana, Cuba, and the University of Cadiz, Spain.

Professional Interests:
Since her undergraduate studies, Tania has been doing research on the immune system of crustaceans. She has been studying the effect of microbial elicitors, environmental stress and continuous reproductive activity on physiological and immunological markers in crustaceans. The general objective of her work is the identification and evaluation of molecular effectors of the crustacean immune system that could be used as indicators of health or selection criteria in commercial cultivation.

Most Satisfying Achievements/Awards:
Tania and her group have been recognized by the University of Havana on several occasions for their research achievements. Specifically, in 2006, for obtaining the scientific result with the highest economical significance: “Contribution to the introduction of the white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei in Cuba ”.  

She has undertaken periods of research in Mexico and Spain.

Family and Personal Interests/Activities:
Tania enjoys spending time with her family, especially with her son. She enjoys traveling to learn about new places and loves the sea.
