Current Position and Title:
Since 2003, Yuliet has been a researcher in the Aquaculture Section of the Center for Marine Research, University of Havana, Cuba.

Yuliet teaches Computation in the Biology Faculty, University of Havana. She recently finished her Master's degree in Marine Biology and Aquaculture, doing her thesis research at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Cuba.

Doctoral studies in Biology will began in 2010 at University of Havana, Cuba.
Principal Advisors: Mario Pablo Estrada, Ph.D and Laida Ramos, Ph.D.

Professional Interests:
Since her undergraduate studies, Yuliet has been doing research on the endocrine control of reproduction in shrimp. She has been studying the eyestalk neuropeptides of shrimp by molecular biology. She has undertaken research collaboration with the Animal Biotechnology Division at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Havana, Cuba. She has used the RNA interference technique for gene silencing experiments in crustaceans.

Most Satisfying Achievements/Awards:
Yuliet and her group are pleased to have been recognized for their research achievements by the University of Havana. Specifically, in 2006, for obtaining the result with the highest economical significance: “Contribution to the introduction of the white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei in Cuba” and in 2009 with the University of Havana award: “Structural and functional characterization of Crustacean hyperglycaemic Hormone from Litopenaeus schmitti with aquaculture perspectives”.

Yuliet also has obtained a Cuban Academy of Science award (http://www.academiaciencias.cu/English/indexen.asp) in 2006 for her contributions to work on a novel mechanism of RNA interference to demonstrate gene functions in aquatic organisms.

She has obtained a fellowship to attend an international course for aquaculture development.

Family and Personal Interests/Activities:
Yuliet enjoys spending time with her family, especially with her daughter. She also enjoys dancing. She loves nature. In her free time, she takes care of her plants and enjoys picnics.
